A Rally to Gorkarna Forest
- Hemant Choudhary, 5 'B'

20th Jyestha Wednesday has been an unforgettable moment for me. I along with my friends participated in the rally which was organized on the occasion of World Environment Day. Your planet needs you! Unite to combat climate change! is the slogan for World Environment Day – 2009. The primary purpose of the rally is to develop awareness among the people about environment. Dividing into two groups, the students of six and seven were taken to Kapan Gumba, a well known monastery in the locality and famous for its spectacular architect & view point for the valley.

Having shared the philosophy of the Buddha and Buddhism, we started the rally from the Gumba which stands as the symbol of peace. As per the instructions provided by the teachers, we marched ahead holding the placards which say, “Plant trees and save trees”, “Let’s save the earth” etc. It was a wonderful rally that led to the Gokarna Forest. We realized on the day that how important environment plays an important role on our life that I have ever thought of.

However, the palace got destroyed in the great earthquake of 1934 A.D. King Tribhuvan's two daughters also died in the earthquake. Then, Tribhuvan Sadan designed by a Nepali architect Surya Jung Thapa, was constructed and it was in this building the royal massacre of 2001 A.D. took place following the royal massacre the building was demolished.

What is climate change?
- Rajesh Gurung, 7 'B'

Climate change is one of the burning issues in today's world, many news articles, televisions and radios; Internets are broadcasting the current happenings based on it day by day. People are also well known about it. So, how to understand the climate change actually? Climate change is the change in climate over a period of time that ranges from decades to centuries. The term refers to both natural and human induced changes. In another sense, the increase in the global temperature caused due to the over production of green house gases is also termed as climate change.

The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change defines climate change as: “a change of climate which is attributed directly or indirectly to human activity that alters the composition of the global atmosphere and which is in addition to natural climate variability observed over comparable time periods”. In other words, the FCCC uses the term Climate Change to mean only those changes that are brought about by human activities.

The natural greenhouse effect warms the planet and allows humans to live on the Earth. For millions of years, water vapour, carbon dioxide, methane and other greenhouse gases have occurred naturally, heating the atmosphere and making Earth habitable.

However, human activities, predominately the burning of fossil fuels, intensive agriculture and land clearing, are causing greenhouse gas concentrations to rise above natural levels, further heating the planet. This is called the enhanced greenhouse effect.

As the concentrations of these gases in the lower atmosphere grows, global temperatures rise, causing changes to weather conditions worldwide. The enhanced greenhouse effect is often referred to as global warming or climate change

Women Empowerment
- Sushma Shrestha, 10 'A'

Society is a composition of both male and female. Without one, human existence would be questionable. That's the fact world understands in relationship of man and woman. Since the primitive stage to the advanced stage of human civilization, women are, however, considered inferior and weaker to men, let it be physically, economically, socially, academically, etc and still women in most of the underdeveloped and developing countries of the world are regarded to be child producing machines only. These wrong conceptualizations on women are nothing rather than misleading and misguiding human civilization and putting humanity in trauma and jeopardy.

Our society is still having so many social evils like dowry system, witch practice, early child marriage, girls trafficking, etc which directly are darkness and medium of women backwardness. It is true that females are deprived of a lot of social injustices and are back in education, development, health, law, economy and are forced to make their own personal decision by males.

Nevertheless, male and female are two facets of the same coin. Women no more digest any sorts of prejudice, discrimination, disparity and domination at any cost rather they are ready to face any sorts of confrontation boldly, logically and analytically eye ball to eye ball to males. The time has already gone for regarding women in the names of Goddess Sarswoti, Laxmi and Kali, Bhagabati and projecting extremity of discrimination. Women are as intelligent as male and they never lose their self determination for a progressive and revolutionary thoughts. They are the women of 21st century who can lead women in power and authority that’s what women empowerment is.

Internationally and nationally, females are on the verge of their empowerment successfully and are rising like stars in every sector of human race. Astha Laxmi Shakya, Sahana Pradhan, Hisila Yami, Shanta Shrestha, Jaya Puri Gharti and Sapana Malla Pradhan are few Nepali women who recently become very popular in national arena who can bring some changes not only to women but also to the nation.

After the re-establishment of parliament, its session decided to empower women by 1/3 majority in CA(Constituent Assembly) and that’s why there are 197 women legislatures in assembly which is a good example of women in power. Our country by having 1/3 women participation in CA has become a very good example of women empowerment not only in the South Asian country but also in the world. There are the women from different professions, sectors, castes. They have their own story of agony, pain and history of regression and struggle and are the true representation of all poor, deprived and backward community, caste and ethnicity and group who for the first time in Nepalese history, are empowered to write their own constitution for their rights duties and empowerment.

Although women have tremendously represented in the every mainstream of politics, administration, authority and decision making posts, they are, however, not secured for the complete freedom to make their own decisions in their favour, freedom and rights. They need a through practice and dedication to tackle any sort of male chauvinism and present strongly for better capacity, responsibility and accountability than the males.

With the new dawn of democracy, women have been showing their presence in great number in all walks of life. Medicine, education, military, militia, administration, communication to transportation women without the greatest zeal of making a difference are indulging for proving what they are truly. They have reached the top level of authority, administration, education sector, governance, and various other sectors. These women are only the few of them who are well-educated and capable. Many of them are in village, spending extreme hardship of lives in the four corners of the house and doing house hold activities. Isn’t it the time for empowering those village women from their nuisance and make them be in the mainstream of development.

Education and awareness of those backward women are the urgent requisite of the present time. Women participation in infrastructure development, health, education, peace, nation building and over all development can empower them to be a true citizen of nation. Every woman should be a responsible citizen to stop all sorts of women discrimination among the women and should let them live a happy and empowered woman for their life, safety and rights. We can definitely perceive a new vision and get closer to new dawn and new Nepal with women empowerment.

Starring: Johnny Depp, Freddie Highmore, David Kelly, Noah Taylor,
Helena Bouham, Carter and Deep Roy.
Genre: Children comedy

We have recently watched a movie named 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory', directed by Tim Burton and produced by Hard D. Zanuck. The film is about Charlie, a soft spoken and optimistic child. His true mission is to learn about the chocolates. Wonka is the investor of the chocolate factory. His real name is Johnny Depp. His role is famous and interesting in this film. The genre of the movie is the children's feelings and comedies. The film is full of feelings and fun.

Jonny Deep is another character that plays an interesting and funny role of Mr. Willy Wonka. He has funny hair, glasses and wears a very long tailcoat. Grandpa Joe who loves his grandson Charlie very much makes humours a lot. The Oompa Loompas dance well, sing well and do a lot of funny things. These are some funny and the imaginary people in the film.

The story is terrific and really very suitable for the children like us. Charlie is a poor boy who lives with his family. The plot is very suitable and it touches our heart. In this story, the time is also fixed in such way that everything is well planned. The places and sets are matching with the story of the movie. It shows the poverty of the Bucket family. They lived in the edge of the town. The language used in the dialogue is completely matchable with the story and aims to target the children like us. Thus, it also plays an important role to make this film a complete package. Each character represents the language for their real identity. They are very suitable. The music is heart touching due to its meaningful tragedy. The way of colours, shooting, acting, the way of sound, machinery parts help to make this movie a great success.

Punk
- Sameeksha Sapkota 10 "A"

'

As soon as you've seen this title "punk", I bet that you're imagining of a guy putting on heavy metal chains, leather jacket, blue faded jeans and of course, brightly coloured hair behaving in a violent and rude way. But hello there? Have you ever taken time to think if you're really correct? Do you think punk is just limited to that "glam" look?

Punk is a large and aggressive popular rock music started in the 1970s and which was very popular to the early 1980s. The '60s was the age of pleasant and peaceful music but in the '70s, people began to get bored of that peaceful music. As a result, violent and aggressive musics like punk, heavy metal, progressive rocks were introduced. Punk music is actually a call to wake the world up. Punk music is loud, ugly and aggressive because life is ugly and aggressive. Punk music is angry because there are a lot of things to be angry about. Millions of young people in this world are without jobs and are very poor. Millions of children are dying of hunger and poverty. Millions of young people are discriminated and isolated in the society. Aren't these things, things to be angry about? Punk musicians put on metal chains, leathers, jeans, converse and have highly coloured hairs because they want to attract the people by their looks which is also known as "glam look"; punk musicians want to attract the people and want to make them aware about these prevailing miseries in the world. Punk is a call to wake the people up. But for punks there is No Future.

So, from this we can clearly say that the meaning of punk is completely misunderstood by almost all the people in Nepal. Punk is not bad thing. It is a great and appreciable thing done by the young people to bring change in this world. So, next time you see that guy with metallic chains and eye catching outlooks, do not forget to think the reason behind that dress-up.

20 Days in Thailand
- Karishma Karki , 10A (National Swimmer)

I, along with my friend, Sagun Man Singh and the coach, Rabin Kumar Poudyal, a total number of three went to Thailand for swimming training. It was a wonderful experience and fun too. I got to know about different things. For about 20 days, I stayed there for away from my country, family, my school and friends. I have to wake up at 6:00 o'clock every morning. I had to reach the swimming pool at 7:00 am. Breakfast used to be sharp at 6:00 o'clock and lunch at 12:30. Finally dinner at 6:00 pm. I made different friends over there from different countries. Swimming training was quite difficult and hard there because it was totally different from ours'. Sunday we were given holiday to go out probably Bangkok city which was about 55 km far away from the place where we were staying. The food was really indigestible for me because it was quite different. Eh! The taste was too bad. So, first it was so difficult for us to adjust there. But my main focus was on my training to improve my timing. I am happy that I did it. I was able to break my own record and what I believe is it all goes to my hard effort and training I did over there. Further I can do better if the similar type of training is provided to me the whole year. The days have passed but I can never forgot those days spent in Thailand. It is really a good lesson for me as I got to know about many things. Every beginning has an ending. So, our stipulated days for training was over, I still remember those lovely days I spent there.

SAVE THE WORLD
- Urusha Gautam , 4A

The world is the most beautiful creation of God and it is a place worth living. But what a pity! We are not able to treasure the gifts of God. People are destroying nature day by day. Nature resources are decreasing and people are unaware of the fact that such a day might soon come when will hardly find nature around us. Trees are being cut down because of the needs of the increasing population. This deforestation leads to the extinction of many species of animals. So, as a result the whole eco-system is being disbalanced. Now, it has become very themselves are destroying the world. It's time to put our hands together and take certain measures to "SAVE THE WORLD". We should try to recycle the used materials. Deforestation should be implemented. Natural parks should be building and conservation of wildlife should be started. Today the world is full of terrorism, corruption and agitation. People fight against each other for their personal benefits. Lets stop fighting and think for the benefit of the whole would. Governments should start campaigns for free and compulsory education for everyone. Let every human being on this Earth be educated. Child labour should be banished. Today's children are the future of tomorrow. So, children should not be deprived of the children's rights. Especially the street children should be given the privileges of such rights The state of the world is becoming worse. So, lets understand the problems and let us be together to make this world a beautiful place to live in.

This above speech bagged the gold medel in Primary Level Elocution Contest organized by Kantipur English High School.

Students - "Pride of the Nation"
- Ankit Shrestha , 10B, School Prefect

Every person born in this Earth have some objectives. They all have some aim and objectives. Some people earn money only for their basic needs of their life while others have the greed for money. Money is not everything in life but we need it for everything in today's world. Being an educated person, one has to do something good for the nation so that the name can be remembered even after the death and by which the generation would be known.

A student can do a lot, to develop the nation. Nation provides us with a lot of opportunities, in return we should also do something for the nation. Teachers teach them a good lesson and they help students in each and every step. if students, read well and do something for the nation then there will be some pride for him. If the students develops negative sense, then they can't do anything. In school, students learn about Discipline which is an important part of his life. We all know that Nepal is a backward country, in terms of Education so we have to increase our thinking power and think for the development of our nation. We are lucky to have an opportunity to study in an English Medium school and our parents aslo have some desire from us. If we do not study well then what would happen to them ? There is a slogan, "Don't think what nation gives you but think what you would do for the nation". So, let's vow that we would study hard and help to take our nation to the highest point.

My Hostel Life
- Radhika Gurung, 10 'B'

I think you all know me, and know how the hostel life is? But even then I would like to give a short description about the hostel life. Hostel life is a kind of a life where we are kept away from our actual parents, and we live with our friends and teachers.

I don't know about others, but talking about myself. I have come to know the value of time and the importance of parents in our life. And also the importance of education. While I was a dayscholar, I was not that much aware about my career and about my parents but now I am much more aware about the above mentioned things and everybody should also. Hostel life teachers us how to be independent or dependent upon ourself because in hostel there won't be our parents or any other to help us and we should do our work by ourself which will help us in our bright future. I became a hosteler just a year before, when I was in grade IX but now I just feel as if I am in the hostel just a day ago. Now, I am in grade X and I don't feel anything since a year has already past. Hostel life is that life where all sorts of funs, sorrows and other things that are important for our bright future are found.

There are many bad thinking of people towards the hostel life, before enrolling myself in the hostel I was having the same concept but now being a hosteler I have realized that the people were incorrect. I agree that hostel life is a difficult life but it's not so difficult that we can't pass through it or live in it. It's difficult as well as easy. We are well-known about the saying "we should be satisfied with what we have" and that's the sign of a civilized person too. And I am very much satisfied with the hostel life. I have heard the saying of a woman in the television that "if you enjoy your work, you should not stop doing it." So, what I enjoy the most being in the hostel which I can't forget ever in my life, it has taught me to stand on my feet and has allowed me be independent in life. Though the atmosphere in the hostel is not as same as we find in our house but the charm of being with ones own friend definitely makes me proud to be in the hostel.

At last, I would like to thank to Mr. John Rohit for helping me a lot and to write my little experience and feelings about the hostel life.

Equal Rights for Women
- Neha Devkota, 10A, School Prefect,

Since democracy, there has been much improvement for the women in Nepal. In our constitution, they enjoy perfect equality with men. On paper, they have all the same rights freedoms and privileges possessed by the males. The women of Nepal should therefore be able to aspire to any position or status in society.

However, these are not the conditions for women in the villages. They are illiterate and uneducated. They are not aware of their rights and privileges. Economically, they are fully dependent on men. Even very highly educated and gainfully employed women in urban areas think of themselves as the weaker sex. They should raise their voice in unity against all social evils and demand that equal rights become a reality.
